The University of Texas-Pan American is located in the Rio Grande Valley, a river delta of the Rio Grande at the Tropical Tip of Texas. The main campus of the University is in Edinburg, Texas, the county seat of Hidalgo County, some 20 minutes from the U.S./Mexico border. Six miles to the southwest is McAllen, Texas; just south of McAllen, is Reynosa, Mexico, a city of over one million. UTPA has a total of 19,000 students coming from 32 different states, although the majority come from Texas.
