María Elvira Salazar
María Elvira Salazar is currently serving as the representative for Florida’s 27th congressional district in the US Congress. Congresswoman Salazar was born in Miami to Cuban parents, who were political refugees who fled Castro’s Cuba.
Prior to her time in public service, she was an Emmy-award winning television journalist for 35 years, anchoring on Telemundo and CNN, and hosted her own television show on Mega TV, América TeVe, CNN Latino and Mira TV.
Salazar won five Emmy Awards during her journalism career, including for her time as a war correspondent in Central America while Bureau Chief for Univision.
