Michelle Agnes Magalhaes (Brazil, 1979) is a composer working in the fields of instrumental music, chamber music, symphony, and opera, as well as hybrid, electronic, and interactive forms.
Beginning her compositional life under the mentorship of Hans Joachim Koellreutter (1994) and deepening her studies with Salvatore Sciarrino and Chaya Czernowin, Michelle Agnes earned a bachelor's degree in musical composition, as well as a master's degree, from the State University of Campinas (2002). She later achieved a Ph.D. from the University of Sao Paulo. From 2013 and 2017 she worked as a researcher at IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et de Coordination Acoustique/Musique, Paris, France). In 2019-2021 she was artist in residence collaborating with Interaction Sound Music and Mouvement team (IRCAM). As a recipient of the UNESCO-Aschberg scholarship for young artists, she is also a member of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University in musical composition (2017-2018).
